Curly Carrots and rampant peppers
Looks like this is going to be the last hot weekend of the summer (and may in fact be the first hot weekend also) so I took the opportunity to see what is left on the roof terrace and harvest.
I could tell that the carrots looked a little odd from the top and they needed to be dug out rather than pulled, but I was never expecting what I found, curly carrots! J shaped carrots that it appear just decided to start growing the other way at some point, the pot would have had plenty more room to grow into, but they just appear to have taken it apon themselves to grow sideways, bless them!
Also the peppers are still in full growth with little ones still appearing, not too sure what to do about this, whether to leave outside or bring inside, will need to do some research.

The carrots may have done a u turn looking for water, there may not have been enough low enough down , its surprising how much they need.
I don’t know what your area is like but it might be beneficial to put up some cane / willow screening, most garden centres sell it, to protect the plants from the prevailing wind.
Think about growing bush varieties eg tomato, runner beans, french beans, Thompson and Morgan are a good grower and you can do mail order for both seeds and young plants. It also gives you a chance to see what is about and what you would like and what would suit your balcony.
It is not a bad idea to buy small plants, because you don’t always have the room for the whole packet once they have germinated.
Perpetual Spinach is good to grow you can pick the young leaves off for salads as well as cooking them and it lasts all year.
