Article submitted by Jamie I love to grow potatoes! They are so easy to grow and you don't even need seed potatoes from the garden shop. Just simply get some potatoes and leave them for a week in a box with some air.
The potatoes will root in the box and then you are ready to plant them! Usually I don't bother buying seed potatoes and just plant potatoes from the nearest supermarket. The potatoes are small yet you get quite a lot of them. I got around 100 potatoes last year from 7 plants! If you want new potatoes then just plant them and when they are ready to harvest then rub the potato and if the skin comes off and you see pure white then it's a new potato! The potato plant grows about 80cm and flowers too. If you want loads of potatoes then bury your potato 20cm down and in light airy soil. Remember to do crop rotation, this is critical because the potato takes out the nutrients for the potato to grow and the nutrients need time to come back and if if you plant the potato in the same spot then it won't grow because the nutrients it needs to grow is gone! These new potatoes are perfect for boiling.

I was always taught that buying seed potatoes is essential otherwise the subsequent offspring of regular potatoes just become smaller and smaller. Is this true ?
