Article submitted to youfarm by James A ( Free seeds on their way! ) Has anybody grown Welsh onions? Are they hardy and can you grow from seed? Any help would be great. I have not had great success with leeks in general.
Welsh onions are grown in the same way as chives. The taste is between the mild flavour of chives and the stronger one of onions. Can be harvested through the winter without protection. Height 30cm. 240 seeds.
The year before I bought some young leeks grown packed together in a pot and they were great once thinned out they grew thick. So last year I thought I would plant some myself in batches to see if I could get a good staggered crop. The first batch I have planted did not grow and died on my window sill. I went for "Giant Winter" are there any easy varities to grow? |
