Has anybody grown Welsh onions? Are they hardy and can you grow from seed? Any help would be great. I have not had great success with leeks in general.

Welsh onions are grown in the same way as chives. The taste is between the mild flavour of chives and the stronger one of onions. Can be harvested through the winter without protection. Height 30cm. 240 seeds.

The year before I bought some young leeks grown packed together in a pot and they were great once thinned out they grew thick.  So last year I thought I would plant some myself in batches to see if I could get a good staggered crop. The first batch I have planted did not grow and died on my window sill. I went for "Giant Winter" are there any easy varities to grow?

I have grown leeks Musselburgh were good in the west of England for me. I save the cardboard rolls from kitchen paper, when u plant seedlings dib a hole with a bamboo stick ,about a finger depth, drop seedling in hole and fill hole with water and just leave them alone. Don't fill hole with earth or compost. When leeks are the thickness of two fingers , to get long white stems place cardboard tubes over plant , push tube down in the soil , then earth up around tube to bleach bulb. The tube stops soil gettin between the lavers of th leek wile growing, rain can get in ,and cardboard is biodegradable. U will harvest long white leeks that have very little dirt in them. To make shorter younger leeks ,cut tubes in half.or use toilet rolls .
