Some people are concerned about the fact that a lot of fruit and vegetables in shops have been grown in soil that is fertilized with animal manure and other animal by-products such as bone and blood and they would prefer to consume fruit and vegetables that are grown without animal by products.

There is an alternative way of growing that does not involve animal by products. This growing method is known as vegan organic. To grow tasty vegan organic fruit and vegetables is as easy as growing fruit and vegetables with animal by products.

The advantage of vegan organic growing is that it provides fruit and vegetables that are suitable for everyone. One source of vegan organic fruit and vegetables is to buy them from a known vegan organic source; the alternative is to grow them oneself in soil that is free from animal by-products.

The soil fertility can be enriched with compost and plant based green manures, such as seaweed, clovers, phacelia, alfalfa and fenugreek. Mulches can be made from newspaper, cardboard, hay or straw, all of which the worms will love and that helps to keep the soil fertile, which is very important for growing.

Vegan organic growing relies on the biodiversity of natural animal and insect life for plant fertilization and plant protection so plenty of decorative companion planting such as pot marigolds, cosmos, and nasturtiums plus green manures left to flower help keep the growing sites active with pollinating insects.
