Article by Felix

More and more people are recycling their rubbish and composting their leftovers and waste than before, but there is a trick that is often missed if you are one of the few people still growing the english rhubarb.

Recycling your urine by depositing it in your rhubarb bed may not be appealing to all or any of you but it has always had great effects and if you love your rhubarb it could be worth giving a go. Before you pull 'yuck' faces consider what else goes on to your soil...manure,bird leavings, chicken manure(if you can stand the smell),if you have cats in the area....well there you are.

I'm not suggesting you should turn your rhubarb bed in to a privvy but if you are...'caught short'( for want of a better phrase) and you're on the allotment or in your garden, give it a try. It's more natural than pouring nitrates over your soil a lot of the nutrients we consume pass straight through us, and besides 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'

I hope some of you are brave enough to try it,I would love to hear your results!

I live in rural France and all our French neighbours pee in the garden. They say it is good for the plants and saves on water for flushing the loo.

I love the idea of peeing on my allotment, convincing my friends and family who eat the vegetables is another question :)

I too live in rural France, Ann. Peeing on the compost heap is also a good idea - easier for men than women, of course!
