I've been looking for some software to help me plan my allotment, a quick search on google lead me to this one….

GrowVeg.com - who offer a free 30 day trial

On initial registration it impressed the pants off me by having the first and last frost dates for my area based on measures from the london weather centre.

There was a useful video showing how it all works ( which I ignored and just ploughed in :)

The free 30 day trial lets you get into the swing of things pretty easily. I managed to draw out my plot and select vegetables from the list.

I did find the interface a little clunky but you soon get to grips with it.

The vegetable selector lets you place your veg in the correct place, and it gives you an idea of spacing of certain veg.

This is the general layout I created, which matches my allotment spacings very well.

But, where this really comes into its own is what it else it helps you with :

1. It will tell you the spacing of the vegetables you are growing. you just place one veg on the diagram and then stretch the veg to cover the space, it will tell you how many you can fit in that space ( don't make the mistake I did, and start placing multiple icons of the same veg in one space, just place one and stretch )

2. It then produces a calendar of what you need to do each month for those vegetables, sow, indoors / outdoors / harvest  etc.

I did the 30 day trial but quickly upgraded to the full addition,as it will saves me lots of time, and hopefully help me avoid some mistakes!

It also lets you publish your plan on the web.

Here is my final plan published using the app -

if you have a small garden like a rockery, you can still grow veg inbetween the plants like dwarf beans or carrots, and of course small tomatoes
