First of all take a small seed tray one which is around six inches long, then take some compost multipurpose works fine fill the three quarters full then push the soil down with a flat bottomed object like another same sized seed tray. You can also use a pot if you have not got a seed tray. Water the compost well then allow it to drain now take your seed packet open carefully take out the inner foil pack open it up and tip the seeds in your hand.

Carefully space the seeds round the pot or tray making sure none are touching each other. Now you can put about another inch of compost on top the seeds but do not water again. Now you can either place in a propagator or greenhouse or maybe a cold frame, or you can make yourself a mini version.

Take 4 small sticks about an inch round place them on the four corners of the tray or on the edges of the pot spaced equally take an ordainary see through plastic bag place over the top of the tray or pot secure with string or rubber band if you are using a pot. You may have to cut your sticks if they are a little long to fit. If you dont have a greenhouse or coldframe you can grow them on a windowsill where they can get plenty of light .

Timing i always sow my chilli seeds  mid to late  march they will take 10 to 15 days to germinate on a windowsill .have enough individual pots ready before you start the next stage and fill them with compost and water well and allow to drain .

Once the seeds have come up and they have more than two leaves it is time to prick out .the easiest way is to use a pencil gently push the pencil in to the pot or tray and ease up the seedlings only hold the seedlings by their leaves and do not touch the roots. Carefully put them into 3 inch or thereabouts individual pots and grow on. If you are growing on a window sill you need to turn the pots at least once a day so they grow evenly

Start to harden off in may put them outside in the day time and bring in the evening. Keep them watered and watch out for slugs outside you can plant them into their final positions the first week of june once all danger of frosts have gone.pot into large pots growbags or greenhouse borders feed with tomato food once the flowers appear.
